Now, after watching the trailer, I would LOVE to hear Rush’s Red Barchetta playing in the background when Kirk is speeding away from the cops in a red gasoline powered car. The scene seems just made for it. It would be perfect. I’ll be watching to see when the soundtrack is available to see if Rush is listed on the soundtrack.

May 8 cannot come soon enough.

I’ve been reading the Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevn J Anderson. It’s a great series. It isn’t particularly inventive or spectalularly worded, it borrows a lot from Babylon 5 and Star Trek, but it is one of the best scifi series of novels I’ve ever read. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s a saga.

I recently aquired The Ashes of Worlds which is the latest book in the series. I’ve been milking the end of the previous book, because I don’t want the series to end.

If you are in to great science fiction, you should check out these books. It has a huge cast of characters from a wide range of aliens.

In 1975, a few years after the original Star Trek went off the air, and before fan favorite Battlestar Galactica hit the scene, a less known British SciFi series titled Space: 1999 was released.

With the demise of most "outter space" science fiction shows, I’ve started going back and toying with the idea of buying the boxed set of Space: 1999 DVDs. It’s a pretty expensive set, but it certainly would be fun to watch.

In Googling around, I found someone who has painstakingly taken the time to "remaster" some scenes from Space: 1999.

Space: 2099 is one of the coolest things I have seen all year. They have really taken some time to clean up visuals on the show – and in the vein of "Star Trek Remastered", they have created new special effects and redone the space shots. The upgrade doesn’t overpower the show. Instead, it makes the show more palatable for younger audiences and could expose a whole new generation of people to a really smart SciFi show.

Head on over to Space: 2099 and check it out. They have completely remastered scenes from a lot of episodes and some clips of before and after. It’s fantastic.

My only complaint about the remastering is that they added some background music – which is fine – but it was the same background music over and over and over – but that’s a minor complaint. Whoever owns the rights to Space: 1999 should hire these guys to finish the job and release all of the remastered Space 1999 on Bluray. I’m buying…

I hadn’t pictured M Night as part of the nutball leftist environmental group, but the whole premise of this movie is that plants and trees are “threatened” by humans and develop a defense mechanism to kill humans. Whatever. The whole concept that all of a sudden, the trees will group together and say, “hey, these pesky humans are taking up too much space. Let’s create some gas that will drive them to kill themselves. Here’s the chemical compound…” is silly.

Not only is the premise of the movie completely stupid, the acting is terrible. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel are way too goofy for belief. The dialog is bad and there’s no surprise at the end of the movie that we have come to know and love from M Night.

Save your dollars. The trees are mad at humans…

Come on Manoj, you’re better than this.
